Q. How do I dispute items on my credit report on my own?

A: Obtain a copy of your credit report from each of the major credit bureaus.

You must contact each credit bureau and request a copy of your credit report before they will talk to you. The credit report is free if you have been denied credit and the report takes 2-3 weeks for delivery. Circle disputed items - include copies of any pertinent documents, receipts, etc.

The credit bureau will research and re-verify any and all information with the creditors.  If the information cannot be verified or is found to be in error, it will be changed or removed from your credit report. You will then be sent a new report reflecting any changes. This process takes approximately 30 to 60 days
